Our
story is not unlike many other great American success stories.
My grandparents, John and Magdalena Bostyan emigrated from
Hungary to the United States in 1925 with a dream of a better
life for their family, including unborn Stephen (my father).
Upon arrival in the U.S., the Bostyans worked in the coalmines
of West Virginia. They moved their family to the west side
of Dayton, Ohio soon thereafter. Once in Dayton, John worked
at GH&R Foundry and Magdalena worked at the cigar-rolling
factory. After several long years in the foundry and cigar
factory, John and Magdalena saved enough money to open The
Ole Time Bar at the corner of 5th Street and Western Avenue
(now James McGee), which they ran throughout prohibition.

In
the late 1940's, Stephen (now Stephen Boston) bought The Ole
Time Bar from his parents. A few years later, Stephen opened
Gypsy Gardens, a Hungarian restaurant. Fortunately this entrepreneurial
spirit filtered down to the next generation. In 1975, Stephen
and his son David (that's me!) opened Schnitzelbank Biergarten
with 19 import biers. Six years later, in 1981, David opened
Boston's Sports Page Eatery and Tavern featuring 60 import biers.
After a fire in 1995, we were no longer able to maintain an
eatery, thus Sports Page became Boston's Bistro & Pub. Since
then, we have maintained our commitment to provide better bier
and service. Today at Boston's, you can choose from over 140
of the world's best imports and micros! |
